BRABEC

In the Brablc or Vrabec family the same happened with names: Vrablec, Brablec. They were created from the woman's form of different man's surname because someone was trying to find the proper man's name using another known scheme. Using this we can get from Vrablc to Vrablcová and using analogy Vrabcová -> Vrabec we will get back to a different name Vrablec. But we do not stop here, now we create woman's name to Vrablec, this could be either Vrablcová or Vrablecová.

This is most visible in case of Vrabl surname. Please check Vrabl and Vrabel in the next table and you will find that the frequencies of man's and woman's name does not match at all. Although in case of Brabec everyone knows that his wife will be Vrabcová and the form Brabecová does not exist, in case of Vrabel there is 50% chance that it will be one of Vrablová, Vrabelová. The reason for this is probably the frequency. If the frequency is very low then the registry office does not know what to use.

MY DAD, JOSEPH BRABEC, WAS BORN IN SENOMATY, BOHEMIA IN 1887 AND CAME TO AMERICA IN 1915. HE MARRIED MY MOTHER, EMILY MINARIK MELKA IN 1917 AND I WAS BORN IN 1919. MOTHER WAS MARRIED TO CHARLES MELKA ABOUT 1908 AND HAD THREE CLILDREN WITH HIM , MILDRED b.1910, CHARLES b. 1912 AND CAROLINE b.1914. MR MELKA DIED IN 1915.I WAS BORN IN 1919,SISTER IREENE b. 1922, BROTHER JOSEPH b. 1925, BROTHER AHTHONY b. 1929 AND BROTHER JAMES b. 1931. I MARRIED LOIS ANN ST CLAIR IN 1958. MY ANNIE DIED IN 1994. SHE IS BURIED IN CALVARY CATHOLIC CEMETERY HERE IN SANTA ROSA. OTHER RELATIVES WERE JAMES MINARIK (MOTHER'S BROTHER) AND JOSEPHINE MINARIK LISKA (MOTHERS SISTER). JAMES MINARIK MARRIED MARY SVOBODA AND THEY HAD THREE CHILDREN, IRENE,JOAN AND GEORGE. MY MOTHER ,AUNT JOSEPHINE AND ALL THE KIDS LISTED WERE BORN IN CHICAGO,ILL. MY DAD, UNCLE JAMES AND AUNT MARY WERE BORN IN BOHEMIA.LAST YEAR,ON THE INTERNET, I MADE CONTACT WITH AN UNKNOWN COUSIN (JOHN BRABEC) LIVING IN WINDSOR, CANADA.HE ,ALSO, WAS BORN IN SENOMATY AND CAME TO CANADA IN 1951.HE AND HIS WIFE, EDITH, WILL VISIT ME OM MARCH 17 2001. THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN THE PACIFIC OCEAN. THATS ALL FOR NOW.

Moravský brabec (Moravian "Sparrow")

Directions

Cut meat into generous chunks, season and together with a chopped onion and crushed garlic place in a baking tray. Add a small amount of water. Baste and turn at regular intervals during roasting. Once meat is golden brown and soft remove from tray and allow fats and juices to thicken. Add flour and water, return to the oven and while stirring occasionally bring to the boil. Return the meat to the baking tray and heat through. Serve with potato dumplings and sauerkraut.

My blood grandfather is not a Brabec. My father and aunt were adopted into the Brabec family after my grandmother remarried. I found this cemetary record for my paternal grandfather.
