March 29 - April 1, 2001
A short second cruise for Shelley and me, which pretty much taught us that we didn't like short cruises. It seemed like most of the trip was spent embarking or debarking.
This is our room, number 4579 on the main deck. We had an inside cabin (cat L), and they packed them in very tightly when they designed this ship. The whole cabin is something like 8 by 15 feet (119 sf), including the bathroom and closet. It wasn't much fun climbing over each other to get dressed, or even to get out of bed in the night, but the rest of the time it was alright.
It was raining most of the day on Thursday when we left. By
evening it settled down to a drizzle, but it still wasn't very
nice for being outside. These are photos of the pool area on the
ship, taken during a lull in the rain.
These are some of the sights as we left Port Canaveral. We
followed two other cruise ships out: the Disney Wonder and the
Carnival Fantasy. All three of us were bound for Nassau.
We figured we'd try to take more pictures of us this trip. These
were taken during that lull in the rain the first night, looking
forward over the pool and hot tub area. We're standing on the
deck above the sign that I photographed earlier.
These photos are from some of the areas inside the ship. There
is a multi-story atrium area in the middle of the ship, with a
pair of glass elevators and curved staircases all around.
In Nassau, we took a walk around the town. It wasn't very interesting, mostly tons of shops trying to sell us junk or overpriced, duty-free stuff we didn't need. We wandered back to the ship and went swimming in the pool while everyone else was out and about.
Nassau is a very popular place, it seems. Ours was one of seven cruise ships to dock there on Friday. I took pictures of each of them so we could look up the other itineraries when we got home.
Friday night was the formal dinner night. We got dressed up and
had our pictures taken. Here are all three of the photos that we
bought from RCI.
Saturday was spent at RCI's private island, which they call CoCo
Cay. The rest of the world calls it Little Stirrup Cay, and it
is right next to NCL's island, Great Stirrup Cay. We took the
film camera out to the island, so the remaining pictures will be
added after we get them developed and scanned.
On Sunday, we returned to Port Canaveral early in the morning
and took the shuttle back to Orlando. We spent the afternoon
roaming around MGM Studios and Epcot before catching our flight
back home that night. We didn't bother with either camera that
day, as we have plenty of Disney photos already.
