Kellie and I went out exploring on our own. We started driving up to the Elk Refuge east and northeast of Jackson. Then worked our way up the Gros Ventre river to see Lower Slide lake and have a little picnic. After lunch we continued into Grand Teton National Park, so I could try to track down 3 or 4 waterfalls that I had marked on my GPS.

This prairie dog was warning his friends that we were getting close.

The road was closed just after this crossing. Pity they didn't tell us that, first.
High water flooded the road and created a few rapids like this one.

In June of 1925 a landslide filled in the valley of the Gros Ventre river, forming Lower Slide lake. This photo shows where the river has been cutting its path back through the debris for the past 85 years.

Kellie and I kept trying to figure out if that wall was always there.
I shot this sign in Teton national park on the same day a couple hiked past a similar sign just north of us in Yellowstone canyon area. According to the news reports, the couple saw the grizzly and still kept hiking. The second time they saw the bear, she killed the husband and tossed the wife by her daypack. Please, take these warnings seriously. Bears are wild animals and you are in their territory. If the park service tells you to avoid an area, it's not worth your life to see if they are wrong.

I was hiking down the wrong trail at Colter Bay when I heard a screech over my head. Looking carefully through the trees, I was being watched.
What more could you ask for? Being lucky enough to catch a portrait pose of such a beautiful bird.

Tucker may be the smaller Jack Russell, but she sure can jump.
