Ladera Resort

These are various views of the buildings that make up Ladera Resort. The buildings are all local stone and concrete constructions, with a lot of beautiful local woodwork thrown in as well. The resort is all strung out in a line along the top of a ridge. You arrive at one end, near the Dasheene restaurant and the pool. The units continue down the row from unit A poolside to unit X at the far end. We stayed in unit S, a deluxe 1-bedroom suite.

Ladera is located on the southwest side of the island, near the town of Soufriere. (A French name meaning "sulfur in the air" so I'm told.) We arrived at the Hewanorra airport at the south end of the island in Vieux Fort, and took a 1-hour taxi ride up the narrow, twisty mountain road that was the main highway around the island. One taxi drive joked that he had a Ph. D. in driving, for Pot-hole Dodging. :)

resort01 — The stairway up to units S and T. That's our door in the picture, with unit T off to the right behind the wall.

resort02 — Walkway that runs just under our balcony and bedroom. Notice the impressions of palm fronds and coconuts in the concrete.

resort03 — Stairway up to unit R and the walkway in the previous photo. They left umbrellas around for anyone to use, as it rained there frequently (but usually very briefly.)

resort04 — Units P through X, as seen from the walkway coming from the entrance.

resort05 — Looking down the walkway towards the entrance, from somewhere around unit P.

resort06 — Part of the koi ponds outside between the reception area and the pool. The bridge over the pond is the entrance to one of the units. (Unit B, I think.)

resort07 — Standing at the balcony by the pool, looking down the front side of the units. Unit S was the first or second unit with a lean-to shaped roof behind the big tree in the middle.

resort09 — The main pool, looking from the balcony back towards the island. Ladera shows the this pool looking the other direction, out across the valley. This pool was voted the 3rd best in the world in some magazine poll, primarily for the valley view that it has.

resort10 — That's the balcony off the bedroom of our unit. In the center of the picture at the top of the drain pipe. This photo is looking up from the back driveway at the far end of the resort.

resort11 — Another shot of the back of the units. Unit T is the balcony at top right, and the photo is looking down the row towards the front entrance.

resort12 — Looking down the back driveway to the "main highway". The photo does not do justice to the steepness of this drive, which is close to 45 degrees!
